Hi Room 2 Families, Thursday, 9-22-16
From the Global Cardboard
Challenge website…
“This fall, we invite kids
of all ages around the world to build something amazing out of cardboard,
recycled materials and imagination.
Inspired by the short
film, ‘Caine’s Arcade’, the Global Cardboard Challenge is an annual event
presented by the Imagination Foundation to celebrate child creativity and
the role communities can play in fostering it. In September, kids of all ages
are invited to build anything they can dream up using cardboard, recycled
materials and imagination.
Why Participate?
The Global Cardboard
Challenge gives children an opportunity to collaborate, learn, and build the
things they imagine through a simple process called Creative Play. The
Challenge lets children explore their interests and passions; teaches critical
thinking, resourcefulness, perseverance, teamwork and other 21st century skills,
and brings communities together to foster and celebrate child creativity! “
Friday,
September 30th will be our
Room 2
Cardboard Challenge Day.
(note
change of date From Monday, 9/26)
Today, we
watched the video, “Caine’s Arcade” and brainstormed a list of possible
creations for our Global Cardboard Challenge. We will be working in teams to
plan, build, and create our ideas out of cardboard and recycled materials. If
you have any extra boxes (large or small), cardboard or recyclables at home,
feel free to send them in and we’ll put them to good use! Please do not send in
dairy containers, packaging or containers for nut products, or egg containers.
On Friday, September
23rd, the 5th graders will share their creations from
their Cardboard Challenge. They will set up an arcade with a variety of games for
all students at Happy Hollow to play. The arcade will run from about 10:30 am
to 1:30 pm. We will visit the arcade during our lunch recess. The fifth graders
shared a presentation about their arcade at our Happy Hollow assembly on Monday.
The 5th graders will collect a $1.00 donation for a “Fun Pass” for
students who want to donate. All students can play the games whether they
donate or not. The donations will go to the Imagination Foundation.

Arcade” for more information!
Thanks so
much and take care,
