Dear Room 2 Families,                                                    February 9, 2016

Ahhh, winter finally seems to have arrived! Hooray!! I’m originally from upstate New York so I crave the snow and the cold in these winter months. We had a wonderfully snowy day on Friday! We had our first-ever “Snowpen Circle” (our winter version of the “Open Circle”), taking our curriculum outside to breathe deep and enjoy the flakes as they fell! We read the book “Snowmen at Night” as the snow swirled about us. What fun! Later in the day, kids created books called, “What Do Snowmen Do At Night?” during Writer’s Workshop. They’re super cute and creative~I look forward to having kids put their finishing touches on them and then taking them home to share with you. I hope you all enjoyed the snow day that we had yesterday as well.

The 100th day of school will now be on Thursday, February 11th. Please have your child bring in his/her collection of 100 items in a Ziploc bag by Thursday. Let me know if you need another copy of the homework assignment that was sent home last week.

We will celebrate friendship and Valentine’s Day in our class on Friday! If your child chooses to hand out valentines for his/her classmates, please be sure he/she has one for each member of our class. Please let me know if you need another copy of our class list.

Many thanks to our classmate Mason Lee for performing the Lion Dance for us in class today in celebration of the Lunar New Year! He was AMAZING!! We appreciate the time his sister, Morgan, and his mom, Marchella, spent with us as well. Morgan read a story called The Great Race, and Mrs. Lee shared the meaning and importance of the Lion Dance.

Please let me know if you’d like to join our class to help out during Math Stations or Writer’s Workshop. You can contact me by email to let me know what days work for you and we’ll find a day for you to join in the fun and learning here in Room 2. We have math stations on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:15 pm to 2:15 pm. Writer’s Workshop is on Mondays from 11:35 to 12:15 pm. We also love having parents come in to read a story at the end of the day or share a special holiday or family tradition with us. Let me know if you’re interested in joining us!

When we return from vacation, we will begin our studies of Maple Sugaring and The Iditarod Sled Dog Race.

I hope you all enjoy the vacation ahead!

Take care,

Lise Weig J
